Computer Information Technology (CIT) is one of the fastest-growing and most exciting fields. CIT has changed the world and touches almost every aspect of our lives.  

The Eastfield College CIT department offers a variety of courses, including programming that will transfer to university computer science programs, certificates, and an Personal Computer Support AAS.

All of the certificates can be secured in a short amount of time meaning that a student planning to continue to a 4-year institution and is majoring in another field may use the skills from the certificate to gain employment and use the skills acquired after graduating as well. 

There is a demand for security personnel in all industries, especially the Federal Government; consequently, with an Information Security Certificate, a student could get a scholarship to a 4-year school majoring in Computer Security.

(can be completed in 1 semester)

CIT – Personal Computer User Certificate
(can be completed in 2 semesters)

CIT – Information Security Certificate
(can be completed in 2 semesters)

CIT – Personal Computer Specialist Certificate
(can be completed in 3 semesters)

CIT – Personal Computer Support AAS
(This degree can be completed in two years if you are a full-time student.)

Why is This a Good Career Bet?

According to projections by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in computer technology services will grow at more than four times the rate of all industries through 2022.

Computer support positions are in increased demand as organizations upgrade outdated hardware, software and network equipment and require more knowledgeable professionals to respond to user questions.  

Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas’s targeted occupations projects 11 separate IT positions as high growth areas, with the largest number of openings for software developers, nearly 16,000. High job growth is also projected for information systems managers, programmers, systems analysts, database administrators, computer support technicians, information security analysts, computer specialists, computer maintenance technicians and graphic designers. 

America’s Career Infonet lists Web developer and computer network support specialist among its fastest-growing occupations for the coming decade. For jobs requiring at least an associate degree, Web developer is among its fastest-growing occupations and careers with the most job openings through 2022.  

U.S. News and World Report’s Money Careers’ lists information security analysts as its fastest-growing technology job this decade with projected growth of 36.5 percent. Its best technology jobs include software developer, computer systems analyst, information security analyst, Web developer, IT manager, computer systems administrator, database administrator, programmer and computer support specialist.
