Gallery 219 at Eastfield College presents: Rebecca Carter: “Friendliness Towards all Things: or I Also Read (this) (into) What You Wrote” from August 16 – September 3. A reception will be held on August 27 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Rebecca Carter uses historical documents (letters, photograph, drawings, and events) as source materials in her work exploring the “collision between subjectivity and knowledge.” For this exhibition she will present groundless thread drawings that explore moments of reception within personal communication.

Carter is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She recently spent a month in Delhi, India for “Transforming State” a residency program and exhibition at the Religare Arts.i  gallery. Carter is currently a member of the Dallas artist cooperative, 500X Gallery. 

On-site Lecture Series:
In conjunction with Rebecca Carter’s exhibition, Michael Corris will present a lecture in relation to the work on the evening (August 27) of the reception at 6 p.m. in F201. 

Michael Corris is an artist and writer on art and Chair of the Division of Art, Meadows School of the Arts, SMU. His most recent publication is Art, Word & Image: 2,000 Years of Textual/Visual Interaction (Reaktion Books, London, 2010, with John Dixon Hunt and David Lomas) and his most recent project is the Free Museum of Dallas (www.freemuseumofdallas.com).

Gallery 219 is located on the upper floor of the Fine Arts building (Bldg F) in Room 219C.  The lecture will take place in F201, directly across the hall from the gallery.  Park and enter at the Performance Hall entrance on the west side of the campus.
